Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas)
The presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple, forty days after Christmas. Simeon's canticle Nunc Dimittis identifies Christ as 'a light for revelation to the Gentiles.' The feast has been celebrated in Jerusalem since at least the 4th century.
