Martyrdom of St. Ignatius of Antioch
The third bishop of Antioch was transported to Rome under guard and fed to lions in the Colosseum. His seven letters written en route are among the most important patristic documents, containing early teaching on the Eucharist, episcopacy, and the name 'Catholic Church.'
