The Crisis that summoned Council of Basel/Ferrara/Florence

The apologetic argument: Achieved a formal (though temporary) reunion with the Eastern Orthodox, Armenian, Coptic, and other Eastern churches. The Decree for the Greeks (Laetentur Caeli, 1439) defined papal primacy, the Filioque, purgatory, and the Eucharistic matter. The council also defeated the conciliarist movement definitively.
