Martyrdom of St. Lawrence, Deacon
One of the seven deacons of Rome, Lawrence was martyred by being roasted on a gridiron three days after Pope Sixtus II. When told to hand over the Church's treasures, he presented the poor. His feast is among the oldest in the Roman calendar.
