Feast of St. Stephen, First Martyr
The first Christian martyr was stoned to death by the Sanhedrin after his speech recorded in Acts 7. Saul of Tarsus consented to his death and held the coats of those who stoned him. Augustine wrote that the Church owes Paul to the prayer of Stephen.
