Martyrdom of St. Thomas Becket

The Archbishop of Canterbury was murdered in his own cathedral by four knights of King Henry II after a dispute over the rights of the Church versus the crown. He was canonised just two years later. His shrine at Canterbury became the most important pilgrimage site in England.
